BMW Championship: Tee times, parking, how to watch and what to know about PGA Tour’s FedExCup Playoffs event

The PGA Tour has returned to Colorado, and now there’s even more on the line.

The BMW Championship comes to Castle Pines Golf Club this Thursday through Sunday — the second-to-last event in the FedExCup Playoffs featuring the top 50 players in the PGA Tour’s FedExCup standings.

The winner will walk away with the J.K. Wadley Trophy, and the top 30 in the standings will move on to the Tour Championship next week at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The winner of the Tour Championship will receive $18 million.

Here’s what you need to know about the event:

How to watch on TV

Thursday: 1-5 p.m., Golf Channel

Friday: 1-5 p.m., Golf Channel

Saturday: 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Golf Channel; 1-4 p.m., KCNC-9

Sunday: 10 a.m.-noon, Golf Channel; noon-4 p.m., KCNC-9

How to get there

Parking: There is no public parking in the general vicinity of Castle Pines Golf Club. Instead, spectators must park in off-site lots and take shuttles to the course. Parking must be purchased in advance. All general spectator parking purchased during championship week is will-call only at 562 Castle Pines Parkway. Will call is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Ride-share: Spectators can also take ride-share and be dropped off near the event grounds. Drop-offs and pick-ups are limited to Gate 1 (482 W Happy Canyon Road). Drop-offs and pick-ups are prohibited near the club’s front gate or nearby residential areas.

Tickets

Tickets can only be purchased online. Many levels of tickets are sold out, though they may be available on the secondary market. Grounds tickets, the most affordable option starting at $116, are still available for Thursday through the tournament’s website. Those tickets are sold out for Friday-Sunday.

Special venues, events, maps for spectators

Walking Castle Pines Golf Club is not for the faint of heart. This is more than a walk in the park, so spectators should come prepared with proper footwear. A map of the grounds can be found here.

In addition to the tournament, there are multiple special hospitality areas and activities throughout the course.

Kick-off: There will be an opening ceremony on the first tee at 8:25 a.m. Thursday that will include the national anthem from singer and songwriter Amanda Hawkins and an F-16 flyover from the Colorado Air National Guard.

The BMW Experience: Located next to the 11th green. Fans can take the BMW Putting Challenge and ride in the 100% electric BMW i5 course shuttle vehicle. For those who have the coin to buy a BMW vehicle, you can get a glimpse at some of the automobile manufacturer’s latest models, including the plug-in hybrid-electric BMW X5 xDrive50e. In addition, Denver street artist Pat Milbery painted a mural near the BMW Experience on Tuesday that fans can enjoy the rest of the week.

Food and drink: We all know everyone wants one of those famed Castle Pines milkshakes, but if the line is too long for those tasty treats, there are plenty of other food options. Among them are Denver-area offerings from Dos Gringos, Farm to Truck, the Simply Pizza Truck and Tom’s Coffee. If you’re into beer, there’s also limited edition beer brewed specifically for the tournament — and signature drinks for those less hoppy inclined.

For the kids: The BMW Championship Junior Golf Clinic will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday and feature appearances from PGA Tour players and, for some reason, Colorado Rockies mascot Dinger. The event is free and open to children ages 16 and under. In addition, juniors will have free admission all week if accompanied by an adult. There is also a kids-only autograph zone near the first tee and practice area.

BMW Owners’ Pavilion: Outside of the perk of being able to afford a BMW, owners of such vehicles will also be able to indulge in exclusive hospitality benefits at the tournament. That includes premium parking at the event as well as access to the BMW Owners’ Pavilion with views of the 16th Hole and 15th green. A BMW vehicle key fob or Digital Key in the My BMW smartphone app will provide access to the perks.
