BMW Championship at Castle Pines: How to watch, where to park, and more

Golf’s biggest stars will descend upon the Front Range this week for the BMW Championship. Here’s what you need to know.

When: Aug. 20-25

Where: Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock

On TV: Thursday and Friday noon-5 p.m., Golf Channel; Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Golf Channel and 1-4 p.m. NBC

Who: The top 50 players on the PGA Tour, as determined by FedEx Cup points, are invited to the BMW Championship. That includes big names like top-ranked Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Valor Christian graduate Wyndham Clark.

What: The BMW Championship is the penultimate event in the FedEx Cup playoff event on the PGA Tour schedule. The FedEx Cup is a season-long competition. The playoffs began this weekend with the St. Jude Championship, which was open to the top 70 points leaders. After the BMW Championship, the Tour Championship (Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta) is open to the top 30 points leaders.

Tickets: All tickets are sold online and will not be available at the gate. Many levels of tickets are sold out, though they may be available on the secondary market. Grounds tickets, the most affordable option starting at $116, are available for Thursday and Friday’s rounds through the tournament’s website. For those on a tight budget, grounds tickets for Tuesday and Wednesday’s practice rounds are about $36.

Parking: Spectators must pre-register their cars; they will not be able to register on-site. Parking registration is $30 and can be purchased along with tickets or separately. The G-Lot, located at the northwestern corner of Santa Fe Drive and North Daniels Park Road, is available Tuesday through Sunday. The J-Lot, located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, is available Thursday and Friday. The L-Lot, located at Castle View High School, is available Saturday and Sunday. There is a shuttle to take spectators from the lots to Castle Pines. BMW owners have access to complimentary offsite parking on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a premium shuttle. Reserved ADA parking spots will be located closest to the shuttles. Spectators who need lift-equipped shuttle transportation should submit a request in advance to bmwc@wgaesf.org. See the tournament’s website for additional details. Note that law enforcement will not allow bicycle or pedestrian access to the event, with the exception of Village at Castle Pines residents.

Traffic: As with any big event, you can expect roads near Castle Pines to be more congested than usual. A portion of Happy Canyon Road, between Lagae Road and Santa Fe Drive, will be closed from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. all week.

Military appreciation: A select number of free tickets are available for the military community, including active duty, retirees, active reserve, and veterans of any branch. During Tuesday and Wednesday’s practice rounds, a hospitality tent for military personnel will be located on 16 green. See the tournament’s website for additional details.
