One person was killed and three others injured in a shooting in Aurora on Thursday afternoon, according to the Aurora Police Department.
Police were alerted just after 3 p.m. Thursday about the shooting, which occurred in a parking lot behind a business on East Colfax Avenue at Ironton Street, interim Aurora police Chief Heather Morris said during an afternoon news conference.
“This is really tragic because a man has lost his life and we have three other people who have been injured,” she said.
The man died at the scene and the three injured people — two men and a woman — were taken to area hospitals, police said. All were adults, according to the agency.
The man killed in the shooting was identified as 27-year-old Anthony Ray Denton-Gutierrez by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday.
Morris said investigators don’t yet know whether the four victims were shot by one or more people. She said the circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet clear, but that police don’t believe it was random or a drive-by shooting.
“We do believe that there’s some sort of connection between the suspect and the victims,” Morris said. “We’re still trying to establish exactly what that connection is.”
Detectives are working to identify a suspect or suspects, she said, and urged any witnesses to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
