Aurora police shot and injured an attempted-homicide suspect at a condo complex near Expo Park on Thursday.
The Aurora police SWAT team was helping the Denver Police Department’s fugitive unit arrest the man suspected in a May 5 attempted homicide in Denver when an Aurora officer shot the man, Aurora Division Chief Kevin Barnes said at a news briefing Thursday.
Aurora and Denver officers had tracked the man to 384 South Ironton St. in Aurora when one officer fired his gun about 11:51 a.m., Barnes said. The address is the same as Edenbrook Condominiums.
Barnes could not confirm whether the man had a gun and did not provide further details about what led to the shooting. Aurora police confirmed in a post on X that no officers were injured.
A SWAT medic provided medical aid at the scene, and the man was taken to a hospital. The man was injured seriously but is expected to survive, Aurora police said in a news release.
The officer who shot the man was placed on administrative leave. The shooting is being investigated by the 18th Judicial District and the department’s internal affairs unit, Barnes said.
