A suspect has been arrested in connection to an alleged hate crime in Aurora.
The incident unfolded at about 11 p.m. July 23 at Rocket Gas Station, 1100 S. Havana St., police said, when a man confronted customers who were speaking Spanish.
“He told them they don’t belong here and followed them to their car,” police said. “He sprayed the victims with gasoline, looked for a lighter to set them aflame, threw a rock through the back window and then stole their keys.”
On Wednesday Aurora police arrested Riny Kosam as a suspect in the case. Kosam is being investigated for robbery, assault, criminal mischief, harassment and several bias-motivated crimes.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in Arapahoe County District Court on Sept. 29.
