A man who fell into the Aurora Reservoir Monday after his boat capsized has died, according to Aurora police.
A boat about 9:30 a.m. overturned near 2800 East Reservoir Dam Road, landing the man in the water, the Aurora Fire Rescue stated on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
The initial call came in at 9:26 a.m. and authorities were told that someone was yelling for help in the water, said Aurora Fire Rescue spokesperson Andrew Logan. Park rangers got the man out of the water within 8-9 minutes.
After rangers moved him to the shore, Aurora Fire Rescue employees began providing medical aid to the patient, who was then transported to a hospital, Logan said.
The man later died at the hospital, Aurora Police spokesperson Matthew Longshore said.
The South Metro Rescue dive team also arrived at the reservoir to make sure no other person had fallen in the water, according to Aurora Fire Rescue. Longshore said it did not appear that anyone else was in the water.
Authorities have not yet said what caused the boat to overturn. Aurora police is investigating the death as accidental, Longshore said.
