Caretaker of disabled adults in Arvada is charged with sexual assault of an at-risk person

A caretaker of disabled adults in Arvada has been charged with sexual assault of an at-risk person, and authorities suspect that there may be additional victims in the metro area.

Eugene “Gene” Gillespie, 71, who was arrested by Arvada police in April, is also charged with unlawful sexual contact against an at-risk person, neglect of an at-risk person and stalking, according to an Arvada Police Department news release.

Gillespie worked as a caretaker for intellectually and developmentally disabled adults in a daycare program, according to the release.

He was arrested in April after an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse of a victim in his care, police said. Gillespie faces similar charges related to an at-risk victim in Lakewood in 2015.

Gillespie has been a caregiver to disabled adults in the metro area for 25 years, according to the release. Anyone with allegations about additional victims is asked to call investigator Lila Storey with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office at 303-271-6856.
