Update: Arapahoe County deputies fatally shoot man holding developmentally disabled woman at gunpoint
Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies were involved in a shooting — and someone was taken to a hospital — on Wednesday, but officials would not say whether that person was shot.
Officials have not said what led to the shooting, which they only would characterize as an “officer-involved shooting.”
Just after 4 p.m., the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office warned on social media about a heavy police presence in the 4500 block of South Himalaya Circle, just south of Aurora and east of Quincy Reservoir.
One victim was taken to the hospital, but the sheriff’s office could not immediately confirm the nature of their injuries, spokesperson Ginger Delgado said.
Delgado declined to say whether the suspect in the case was injured or killed, but confirmed no one is in custody and there is no threat to the community.
Deputies responded to the area after someone called 911 about a person with a gun in their home, Delgado said.
The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office Critical Incident Response Team is on scene and investigating the shooting.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
Updated 6:35 p.m. May 15, 2024: This story has been updated to correct how this shooting was originally characterized. Arapahoe County sheriff’s officials would not confirm their deputies shot anyone.
