Two people were rescued from a fire at an apartment complex in Arapahoe County early Wednesday morning and people from 86 residences have been displaced in the second blaze in three months at the complex.
The fire broke out inside an apartment at 1306 S. Parker Road in unincorporated Arapahoe County, according to a 5:40 a.m. tweet from the South Metro Fire Rescue Twitter account. The Denver Fire Department and Aurora Fire Department assisted in the fire, which was extinguished by 6:18 a.m.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office rescued one person from the fire, and firefighters rescued another person with a ladder, the fire department said on Twitter.
Ten people were evaluated by paramedics at the scene and two people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, SMFR said.
According to investigators, the fire was accidental was caused by cooking.
People from 86 residences in the apartment complex have been displaced by the fire. The Red Cross and Arapahoe County Community Resources are aiding displaced residents.
In November, firefighters battled a fire at the same complex, Club Valencia, said Eric Hurst, a SMFR spokesman.
In the earlier fire, three people were taken to the hospital, 15 were treated on scene and residents from 85 units were displaced by the two-alarm fire. The cause of the November fire remains under investigation.
The apartment/condo complex is a large, adjoining circular building with seven sections. Each section has a specific address, Hurst said. There are more than 300 units in the four-story complex. The building’s construction dates back to before current fire codes, Hurst said, and there are no fire sprinkler systems, nor a coordinated full-complex fire alarm system.
