A use of force incident at the Adams County Jail is under investigation by Westminster police.
The incident, involving an Adams County deputy, happened on the afternoon of Dec. 13, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said in a Thursday news release.
Any determination of criminal charges will be made by the Westminster Police Department and the Adams County District Attorney’s Office, the release said.
“The Adams County Sheriff’s Office takes use of force incidents seriously and have fully cooperated with the Westminster Police Department as they conduct their criminal investigation,” the release said.
The sheriff’s office will conduct an internal investigation, after the criminal investigation concludes, to determine if internal policy violations occurred.
The deputy involved, who was not identified, has been placed on restricted duty. The sheriff’s office did not release any other information about the incident, including who was allegedly victimized by the use of force, or what injuries, if any, were suffered in the incident.
