Adams County sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a man while attempting to arrest him on a warrant late Wednesday in unincorporated Adams County. A deputy was also injured in the shootout.
The shooting occurred at 10:17 p.m. Wednesday on Leona Drive in the Sherrelwood community in unincorporated Adams County, according to a news release.
Deputies were attempting to apprehend a man with an active Department of Corrections warrant when the man came out of a residence “wielding a firearm, resulting in an exchange of gunfire,” according to the sheriff’s office on Facebook.
According to the news release, the man shot at deputies, striking one deputy twice in the extremities.
Several deputies returned fire and shot the man, who died at the scene.
The sheriff’s office said on Facebook the injured deputy is in stable condition at a hospital.
The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave and a critical incident response team is investigating the shooting.
