Train travelers to and from Denver International Airport Wednesday will need alternate plans for a few hours.
The Regional Transportation District and partner Denver Transit Operators are scheduled to conduct an annual emergency preparedness exercise on the RTD A Line between Denver Airport and 61st and Peña stations starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, RTD officials said in a news release.
A Line rail service will be suspended between the two stations for about two hours during the exercise.
Bus shuttles will support A Line customers between the airport and the 61st and Peña Station but will not mirror regular train schedules, officials said.
Riders getting on at the airport can board the shuttles at Gate 7, located in the DEN Transit Center, Level 1, adjacent to the Westin Denver International Airport hotel.
Shuttles at 61st and Peña Station can be boarded in front of the station.
Customers will board bus shuttles at the following locations:
The last westbound train departing Denver Airport Station before the drill will leave at 9:57 a.m. The first bus shuttle departure from this station will be at 10:12 a.m.
The last eastbound train departing 61st and Peña Station before the drill will leave at 9:40 a.m. The first bus shuttle departure from this station will be at 9:55 a.m.
A Line service between Union Station and 61st and Peña Station will operate as normal, and service to and from the airport will resume after the training.
Area residents and businesses may see a large presence of emergency vehicles Wednesday near the exercise location, which is at the east end of the Peña Boulevard Bridge.
