An Aurora man was shot and killed early Wednesday morning after he and his son confronted and chased two people who had stolen scooters from the man’s home in the city’s Del Mar Park neighborhood.
The man, 49, and his son had woken to the sounds of two suspects stealing two scooters outside their home on the 900 block of Paris Street, according to an Aurora police press release. When the man and his son confronted the thieves, the two suspects fled on the stolen vehicles. The victim and his son then chased the suspects in a truck as the suspects opened fire on them. After the man and his son returned home, a vehicle drove by the front of their house and fired several rounds into the building. One struck the man, fatally wounding him.
Police arrived at the home just after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and attempted to provide care to the man, but he died at the scene. Police did not immediately identify the victim.
The scooters were recovered in yards elsewhere in the victim’s neighborhood. The suspects have not been identified, police said.
