Motorcyclist killed in late night Denver crash, police investigating

Denver police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one driver dead Sunday night.

Officers responded to reports of a crash at 23rd Avenue and North York Street around 9 p.m. Sunday, said Denver Police Department spokesperson Doug Schepman.

When officers arrived at the intersection, they pronounced the motorcyclist — an unidentified adult male — dead on the scene, Schepman said.

The motorcyclist’s identity will be released by the Denver Coroner’s Office.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on York when he collided with a car making a left-hand turn from southbound York to 23rd, Schepman said.

The driver of the car stayed on scene after the crash.

The Denver Police Department’s traffic investigations team will present the case to the District Attorney, who will determine who was at fault, Schepman said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
