Aurora man dies days after five-vehicle crash

A 57-year-old Aurora man died Monday from injuries sustained in a five-vehicle crash on Colfax Avenue, according to the Aurora Police Department.

The crash on Oct. 23 closed eastbound Colfax Avenue at Interstate 225 for more than six hours. Three people reported minor injuries and two others were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened just after 6 a.m. when a blue Ford pickup speeding eastbound on Colfax Avenue rear-ended a blue Nissan Murano and green Toyota Camry, which were pushed into a white Ford Ranger and blue Chevrolet pickup, according to the Aurora Police Department.

The drivers of the Ford pickup and Nissan were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the Nissan died early Monday morning, according to Aurora police. His identity will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

The department initially reported the crash involved seven vehicles but updated that number in a news release Monday.

An RTD bus received minor damage from the debris during the crash, but no bus passengers were injured.

Aurora Police Department’s traffic investigation unit is investigating a medical issue as a possible contributing cause to the crash. The crash marks the 59th traffic-related death in Aurora this year, according to the department.
