A father and son from Highlands Ranch have pleaded guilty in federal district court to disorderly conduct and demonstrating in a Capitol building during the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
David Christian Tyner and his son, Christian Peter Tyner, were arrested on June 21 and charged with four counts each for their involvement in the U.S. Capitol riot.
In identical plea agreements filed on Oct. 27, David Tyner and Christian Tyner pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building and grounds and one count of parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
They face up to one year in prison and five years of probation and will each pay $500 in restitution for damage caused during the riot, according to the plea agreement. They are set to be sentenced on Feb. 16.
David and Christian Tyner drove from Highlands Ranch to Washington, D.C., on Jan. 5, 2021 to attend former President Donald Trump’s rally on Jan. 6, where he made false claims about the outcome of the presidential election.
The father and son entered the Capitol through the East Rotunda Door at 3 p.m., after a group of rioters overwhelmed police and broke through the doors.
They were in the Capitol until 3:17 p.m., according to court records.
A photo included in an FBI report shows Christian Tyner with a bandage wrapped around his head and blood streaked down the side of his face and chin. David Tyner told FBI agents that his son was hurt when Capitol police tried to move people off the east steps, but agents could not find evidence to confirm his claims, according to earlier reporting.
