Aurora homicide remains unsolved on 1-year anniversary, police ask public for information

Aurora police asked for the public’s help Sunday in solving a year-old homicide that happened on South Crystal Way.

Just after 3 a.m. on Nov. 12, 2022, Aurora police officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 900 block of South Crystal Way, according to a Sunday news release from the department.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found one man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound, the news release stated. The victim, later identified as 41-year-old Jared Chavez, died from his injuries at the scene.

According to the news release, Chavez was a resident of the apartment complex and the preliminary investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from an argument between him and an unknown suspect.

One year later, on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, detectives have exhausted all leads in the investigation and are asking anyone with information about the suspect or shooting to call Detective Raines at 303-739-6068 or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
