Pedestrian killed in crash with RTD train in Denver

A pedestrian was killed in a crash with a Regional Transportation District train in the 600 block of Mariposa Street on Thursday night, according to the Denver Police Department.

The male pedestrian, whose age was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Denver police.

No injuries were reported by the train operator or customers aboard the train, RTD spokesperson Pauline Haberman said.

The crash was reported at 6:30 p.m. as a person trespassing on the tracks who “made contact” with an H Line train near the RTD train yard at Sixth Avenue and Mariposa Street, Haberman said.

RTD temporarily suspended service on the D, E and H lines due to the crash before implementing bus shuttles on the lines.

All D, E and H line trains are stopped at their nearest stations and no trains are moving north of Broadway, Haberman said. The L Line is operating through the downtown loop and the W Line is running on a normal schedule.

Bus shuttle service is being extended to Auraria West, Haberman said, and customers who need to reach the I-25/Broadway station from downtown should take the W Line to Auraria West and the shuttle to Broadway. More information about delays and service alerts is available online.

This is a developing story.
