Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson looks like a winner again. The statistics don’t count, just winning. It was a bad situation for everyone last year, and now Wilson is showing us how good he is.
Gerard, driving the bandwagon
Kiz: We’ve all seen it. DangeRuss can be a robot. By stubbornly shielding the human emotions in his heart, Wilson can make it difficult for teammates or fans to embrace him. But know what? His cold, calculating nature has also helped Wilson and the Broncos recover from an awful 1-5 start to this season. A quarterback who burns too hot might well have let his ego get in the way of the efficient game management in which Wilson sacrifices big passing numbers for the good of Denver’s no-nonsense approach to winning.
Wilson has been better than I expected. But I still don’t want him on the team next season, and not much short of a trip to the Super Bowl can change my mind.

Kiz: There are no guarantees in life or the NFL. But I’d be willing to bet that the Broncos won’t be going to the Super Bowl this season and Wilson will be back in Denver next season.
I’ve gone from the Broncos need to tank for a top draft pick to this is fun and let’s see how far this run of victories can go. The Buffalo game showed me Wilson can engineer the drives to win games. But I haven’t seen him make the elite plays that can carry the team throughout a game. I think the Broncos draft a quarterback in 2024 and hold onto Wilson for two more seasons.
Adam, Chicago
Kiz: Coach Sean Payton has strongly hinted he believes in drafting a quarterback every year. How early the Broncos draft a QB will depend on how well the team plays down the stretch.
I still don’t trust Russ. This Denver offense reminds me of when Tim Tebow played. It’s boring and mediocre until the fourth quarter. Wilson, who misses open reads and isn’t a pocket passer, is best when he improvises. Not the long-term solution.
Lenny, da boss
Kiz: The way Payton manages Wilson reminds me more than a little of how Dan Reeves kept a young John Elway under wraps to prevent mistakes until the fourth quarter, when the coach turned his quarterback’s free-lancing tendencies loose with the game’s outcome in the balance.
The Nuggets’ bench is awful. We naively thought general manager Calvin Booth could replace key players lost this offseason with some rookies and Christian Braun. I love Braun, but he’s not there yet. Booth needs to make some moves, or we ain’t defending anything.
David, embraces the grind
Kiz:. Is this season about developing young players or making another run at a championship? Booth needs to decide, because it’s nearly impossible to do both at the same time.
And today’s parting shot is a one-two punch in defense of the cheap shot that got Broncos safety Kareem Jackson suspended for the second time this season.
Kiz, go watch tennis if you have a problem with that hit on Minnesota quarterback Josh Dobbs.
