Colorado weather: Wednesday may be coolest day until September

Get ready to enjoy one more day of cool weather before the heat returns, Colorado. Wednesday might be the coolest day until September, according to the National Weather Service.

Below-normal temperatures for June continue Wednesday for Colorado, especially across the plains, NWS forecasters said.

Temperature highs are expected to hover between 50 and 70 degrees in the mountains and valleys, 50 and 60 degrees in the foothills and along the Palmer Divide and around 60 degrees in the Urban Corridor and Eastern Plains, forecasters said.

In the Denver area, the afternoon heat will peak around 72 degrees Wednesday — the lowest maximum temperature the city has seen since May 26, according to NWS records. Overnight, temperatures will drop to 51 degrees before shooting back up to 90 degrees Thursday.

Denver’s weather is more than 10 degrees below average for the date, meteorologists said. On average, June 19’s temperature high falls around 85 degrees.

There will be a small chance of afternoon rain showers and thunderstorms in the Denver area and foothills Wednesday, according to a NWS hazardous weather outlook. Rain showers are expected over the plains overnight, along with a thunderstorm or two.

Stormy weather is expected to pick up in both frequency and intensity Thursday and Friday, even as temperatures in the metro area return to the 90s, the outlook stated.

Warmer, drier weather will roll in Saturday and stay through Tuesday, forecasters said. Another day with temperature highs below 90 degrees is not yet on the forecast for the city.

Temperatures will take a couple days longer to rebound to the 90s across the Eastern Plains, according to NWS forecasters. Thursday and Friday will bring temperatures in the high 80s before 90s return for the rest of the foreseeable forecast Saturday.
