A man Denver police described as an “intruder” was shot and killed early Sunday morning in the city’s University neighborhood.
A resident in the 2300 block of East Evans Avenue was returning home just before 1 a.m. Sunday when they were surprised by an intruder, Denver police said in a post on X. The resident shot the man, who died at the scene.
The address is near the University of Denver.
Coroner officials identified the intruder as 27-year-old Nelson Kimathi, according to a July 25 update from the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.Kimathi’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
The resident is cooperating with police and the investigation is ongoing, according to the department.
