Family and friends of missing persons in Colorado will have a chance to connect with law enforcement, support groups and other resources at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s “Missing in Colorado” event on Saturday.
According to CBI investigators, there are 1,278 active missing persons in Colorado.
“Although this is an alarming number, we know many of these missing people will be reunited with their families within a few days, weeks and months of the dates they went missing,” CBI officials said in a news release. “However, nearly half will remain missing for more than a year.”
CBI’s annual “Missing in Colorado” event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Denver’s Lowry Conference Center — 1061 Akron Way — and is open to the public.
A family support luncheon will be at 1 p.m., giving families the chance to to speak with co-victims and victim advocates, CBI officials said.
The event will offer resources for impacted families and allow them to meet with investigators; share information about missing loved ones such as photos, dental records and DNA; and enter information about their loved one into a national missing person database, CBI officials said in the news release.
A private family support group will met from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., CBI officials said. Space is limited and reservations are encouraged. Those interested can contact Audrey Simkins at 303-239-5764 or Melissa McGaw at 303-239-4227.
“The CBI team is committed to ensuring the families of the missing have access to the latest information and tools to help them as they navigate through this devastating chapter in their lives,” CBI Director Chris Schaefer said in the news release.
Schaefer asked people to review the CBI Cold Case Database and the Missing Persons Resource Page, and to share any information that may help investigators locate missing Coloradans.
