What started as a rescue has now shifted to a recovery operation as fire and rescue crews search for a missing person in Rampart Reservoir.
Crews with the Colorado Springs Fire Department and Colorado Parks and Wildlife responded to Rampart Reservoir — about 12 miles northwest of Colorado Springs — Saturday afternoon after a person went missing in the water, fire officials said.
In a 4:53 p.m. statement on social media, fire officials said the person went underwater and didn’t come back up.
Colorado Springs fire crews, a special operations drone team and a search and rescue dive team all responded to the Saturday afternoon call, fire officials said.
Just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the Colorado Springs Fire Department took control of the incident from Colorado Parks and Wildlife as the rescue operation switched to a body recovery, fire officials said.
People are asked to avoid the reservoir while crews work.
