A Centennial construction worker was killed in a work zone on South Holly Street after a dump truck driver backed over him, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash near the Willow Spring Open Space on Monday morning.
Traffic investigators determined a worker was trying to stop traffic on South Holly Street to let the dump truck driver reverse when the truck backed over him, sheriff’s spokesperson Ginger Delgado said Tuesday.
The man, identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office as 63-year-old Reinaldo Aguilar, was later pronounced dead. The cause and manner of his death are still pending, coroner’s officials said Tuesday.
Investigators are still looking into what happened during the crash, Delgado said.
The driver of the dump truck is not facing criminal charges at this time, the sheriff’s office said in a post on X.
The name of the construction company was not immediately available. Construction crews are installing a pedestrian beacon system and adding sidewalk improvements and trail connections, according to project information from the city’s website.
