Denver will see highs Thursday peak in the low 40s before a cold front moves into the area in the evening, dropping temperatures to the teens overnight.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder said temperatures could hold out for a few hours between 25 and 30 degrees as the front arrives, but the city by early evening should see much colder temperatures in the teens.

Denver7 reports the temperature drop to the teens will happen around 8 p.m., and the overnight low will be about 13 to 15 degrees.

NWS forecasters expect Friday to stay below freezing, then Saturday will see a rise to just above freezing before temperatures reach the 50s Sunday.

Most areas of the mountains on Thursday morning will receive another about three to six inches of snow, with possibly up to 12 inches in the Park Range. High wind gusts of up to 70 mph could cause blowing snow at mountain passes and above the timberline, leading to dangerous driving conditions.

Forecasters warned drivers to avoid mountain travel if they aren’t prepared for snowy conditions.

Loveland Pass and Interstate 70 eastbound closed early Thursday morning due to snowy conditions.

The snow will subside by Friday, then another light snowstorm is possible Sunday that could bring an inch or two more of snow to the mountains.
