Colorado weather: Tornado touches down in eastern Adams County

Update 3:38 p.m.: A tornado touched down in eastern Adams County on Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

A tornado was spotted near Leader, 30 miles southwest of Fort Morgan, at 2:10 p.m. and was moving northeast at 15 mph, forecasters said in a tornado warning.

Anyone in eastern Adams County should take cover, move to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoid windows. A tornado warning expired at 3 p.m.

Original story: Scattered thunderstorms are expected across Colorado this afternoon, bringing the potential for hail — especially in the Eastern Plains, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Storms are likely to develop in the Urban Corridor between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., while those in the Eastern Plains are likely to arrive between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., according to the weather service.

The storms could become severe and bring golf ball size hail and heavy winds. The largest threat of severe weather will be east of Fort Morgan and Limon, according to the weather service.
