Armed man shot, killed by Colorado Springs police responding to call for suicidal male with firearm

Colorado Springs police officers fatally shot an armed man while responding to a call for a suicidal male with a firearm Saturday, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, officers received a call about a suicidal male with a gun in the 4200 block of Deerfield Hills Road, officials stated. The man fired a gun inside his home but did not harm the other occupants, who left safely, according to the call.

Once on scene, officers tried to perform a welfare check, but the man fired additional shots from his home into the surrounding neighborhood, according to a Sunday X post. Officers requested tactical support.

Before tactical support could respond, the man exited his house with a gun. Officers ordered him to drop his weapon, but fired on him when he refused, according to the department.

Officers attempted emergency medical aid and took the man into custody. He was then was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, officials said. The man’s name has not yet been publicly released. No one else was harmed during the incident, according to the post.

The shooting is under investigation by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. Within three weeks of the incident, the Colorado Springs Police Department will release a video brief including body camera footage, according to the department.
