Red Rocks Amphitheatre organizers canceled Saturday’s Dom Dolla show and scheduled two replacement shows at Denver’s Mission Ballroom, citing a forecast of 100 mph wind gusts at the Morrison venue.
Safety is a primary concern for event organizers, AEG Presents officials said in a news release Friday afternoon. Dom Dolla’s Friday show is still set to begin at 6 p.m.
AEG announced the first replacement show at 5 p.m. Friday, which was sold out by 7:15 p.m. Tickets for a second, earlier Dom Dolla show at Mission Ballroom are available to Red Rocks ticketholders now and to the public at 9 p.m.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre tickets are not valid at the Mission Ballroom shows, though Red Rocks tickets for the original Saturday show will be refunded.
The decision to cancel the show for severe weather comes less than a year after a hail storm pummeled the ampitheatre during a Louis Tomlinson concert, injuring dozens and sending at least seven people to the hospital.
Concertgoers criticized event organizers for allowing the June 21 show to move forward after an initial lightning delay.
The Denver metro and Front Range are under a high wind warning starting Saturday morning, with forecasters predicting gusts of up to 100 mph in the foothills on Saturday.
Constant winds of up to 55 mph are forecast for the Interstate 25 corridor and eastern plains, with gusts up to 80 mph possible there.
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for dangerous fire weather conditions for most of the Front Range through the weekend.
