Sunny and hot weather continues along the Front Range on Saturday with widespread afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms in the mountains.
In Denver the high temperature will be about 95 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Winds will top out near 15 mph. Tonight in the city, skies will be partly cloudy, and the overnight low will be near 66 degrees.
There’s a chance of flash flooding in wildfire scar areas, in particular the Cameron Peak burn scar, the weather service said. A few mountain storms may roll over the plains by late afternoon and early evening, bringing mostly gusty winds to the area.
The metro area is under an air-quality alert through 4 p.m. Saturday. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has posted an Ozone Action Day Alert for Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer and Weld counties.
People are urged to curtail using gas- and diesel-powered vehicles and machinery, including lawn mowers, if possible. Sensitive groups, including people with asthma or respiratory health concerns, are advised to avoid extended outdoor activities. Ozone is expected at unhealthy levels.
On Sunday in Denver there’s a 40% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said. The high temperature will be near 94 degrees. On Sunday night, skies will be mostly cloudy and there’s a 50% chance for showers and thunderstorms before midnight.
On Monday in the city, there will be a slight chance of morning showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said, with the chance for precipitation increasing as the day progresses. Skies will be mostly cloudy, and the high temperature should top out near 86 degrees. There’s a 70% chance for precipitation.
The risk for flash flooding increases Monday in burn scar areas and along the Interstate 25 corridor as monsoonal moisture settles in the area, the weather service said. Stronger storms on Monday will be capable of dropping 2 inches of rain in 45 minutes or less.
A gradual drying trend is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, with drier and warmer weather expected into Thursday.
