Denver weather: Wednesday to bring heat, potential rain

Following a hot start to the week, Wednesday is expected to continue the ongoing heat.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for a high of 90 degrees in the Denver metro area with sunny and clear skies. After noon, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible with a roughly 10% chance.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued by the National Weather Service for Wednesday as heavy rain may increase the chance of flooding, particularly for portions of central, east central, north central and northeast Colorado.

The weather service also issued an air quality alert for Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer and Weld counties.

The air quality alert was issued because “ozone concentrations in the unhealthy for sensitive groups category are likely both Tuesday and Wednesday during the afternoon and evening hours,” the weather service wrote.

Overnight, temperatures are expected to hit a low of 63 with a 50% of showers and thunderstorms.

Forecasters expect Wednesday to mark the last hot day of the week before temperatures drop nearly 10 degrees Thursday and Friday.

By Thursday, Denver will get a considerable break from the heat, according to the weather service, as Thursday’s high is expected to cap at 79 degrees.

Thursday will almost certainly bring rain, as the chance for showers and thunderstorms is 90%.

Friday’s forecast may only be a notch hotter with a high of around 81, also expected to bring a high likelihood for storms.
