Platinum-selling Colorado pop group OneRepublic will headline Sunset Amphitheater when the $90 million project debuts to the public on Friday, Aug. 9.
The 8,000-capacity Colorado Springs amphitheater, located southeast of Interstate 25 and North Gate Boulevard, has been marketed as the luxury answer to outdoor concert-going since construction was announced in April 2022.
It promises “world-class artists,” top-of-the-line audio and visuals, a self-draining grass berm, and more than 90 luxury fire-pit suites — all of which sold out about two years ago, said JW Roth, CEO of Sunset’s parent company Notes Live, in a prepared statement.
Grammy-nominated act OneRepublic, led by singer-songwriter Ryan Tedder, is originally from Colorado Springs and is making a rare local appearance for the event. Colorado mega-promoter AEG Presents Rocky Mountains, which dominates the Denver market, booked the show “exclusively in partnership” with the venue, according to the statement.
Sunset will offer clear views from every seat in the house, Roth said, with gourmet dining and drink options, “crystal-clear sound, and other premium touches.”
Roth, a businessman who has taken seven companies public over the years, turned his prepared-foods company, Roth Premium Foods, over to his son so he could focus on his passion for live music, he told The Denver Post in 2022. Roth food products are now available in 12,000 grocery stores nationwide, said Roth, who began his career by selling firewood door-to-door as a teenager.
Now Sunset will be the crown jewel of the Notes Live empire, Roth said, with “several other premium entertainment campuses nationwide” on tap. Sunset’s other entertainment campus outside Colorado Springs will include the Boot Barn Hall music venue, Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse & Tavern, and Notes Live Music and Social Bar.
