Body found in Northglenn reservoir, but city’s water is safe to drink, officials say

A man’s body was found in a reservoir in Northglenn on Wednesday morning, but officials said the grim discovery has no effect on the quality of the city’s drinking water.

The adult male body was found by employees of the Northglenn Water Treatment Facility around 7 a.m. in the “terminal reservoir,” which plant officials describe as containing raw water that undergoes standard treatment and disinfection before going to homes and businesses.

“It is safe for residents to continue consuming the city’s water,” Northglenn officials wrote in a news release Wednesday.

Northglenn police, the North Metro Fire Rescue District and the Adams County coroner worked the scene. The coroner is trying to establish the identity of the person who was found, while police want to determine how he gained access to the reservoir, which is fenced and gated.

Police say they don’t believe foul play was involved. They don’t know how long the body was in the water.

Anyone with information to share is encouraged to contact Northglenn police at 303-450-8790.
