Interstate 70 reopened in both directions through Glenwood Canyon after a flash flood warning expired on Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the Grizzly Creek fire scar, prompting the Wednesday closure, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The warning, posted until 8:30 p.m., included portions of Garfield and Eagle counties.

A round of widespread showers and thunderstorms was expected to bring “abundant moisture” to the area, according to the weather service.

“Heavy rain and localized flooding will be possible with the stronger storms,” the weather service said. Showers were expected to linger into the night.

The highway reopened in both directions after the warning expired, according to a 8:47 p.m. Garfield 911 tweet.
