A suspect barricaded inside a residence Monday was shot by an El Paso County deputy and the suspect was taken to a hospital.
About 2:20 p.m. Monday the sheriff’s office received a 911 call reporting a felony menacing in which a man pointed a gun at a person. A short time later, a “follow-up caller” reported multiple shots fired in the zero-hundred block of Easy Street, near Kiva Road, according to a Tuesday afternoon news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department, which is leading the shooting investigation.
Deputies and Fountain police officers responded to a residence on Easy Street and saw an armed man inside the homefire at least one shot at officers, the news release said. At least one deputy fired at least one shot at the suspect.
A SWAT team, medical personnel and crisis negotiators responded to the scene, among other emergency responders. A perimeter was set up around the residence and a shelter-in-place order was issued for nearby residents.
The armed man refused to exit and remained in the home. About 6:40 p.m. SWAT members entered the residence and arrested 52-year-old Robert Wood. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. No one else was injured. The shelter-in-place order was lifted after the suspect was arrested.
The deputy, identified Friday by the sheriff’s office as Mark Carle, is on administrative leave per sheriff’s office policy.
Carle has been employed with the EPSO since April of 2018 and is assigned to the patrol division.
