Grandview’s Sienna Betts named Gatorade Colorado girls basketball player of the year

For the third straight year, a member of the Betts family has been crowned the Gatorade Colorado girls basketball player of the year.

Grandview sophomore Sienna Betts on Wednesday received the honors, following in the footsteps of her sister Lauren, a 6-foot-7 freshman at Stanford who won the award each of the last two seasons.

The younger Betts, who stands at 6-4, is averaging 21.6 points, 16.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks for the Wolves, who beat Highlands Ranch last week to punch their ticket to the Class 6A Final Four.

“We play in an incredibly tough league with several elite players and Sienna is as tough of a matchup as anybody we’ve faced all season,” Bishop Alemany High School head coach Jeff Dosado said in a news release. “She is a relentless rebounder and is a strong all-around player that we really had to respect, no matter where she was on the court.”

In addition to her on-the-court prowess, she has a 4.38 grade-point average in the classroom. Betts is undeclared for college, but is rated as the No. 5 recruit in class of 2025 on ESPN and the top Colorado recruit on prepgirlhoops.com.

It’s the sixth time a Grandview player has received the honor. Michaela Onyenwere, a forward with the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA, won it three times from 2014-17.
