Aurora Fire Rescue has contained a brush fire in an open space near the intersection of Parker and Chamber roads but will remain on scene to watch for hot spots that may flare up.
The fire was reported at 3:15 p.m. by 911 callers. No structures burned, but a footbridge and brush in an open space were torched. The fire was contained to under 3 acres, firefighters said. A brush truck crew will remain on scene into the evening, checking for hot spots and monitoring the area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire department performed door-to-door evacuation notices for fewer than a dozen homes and condominiums in the Pioneer Hills neighborhood, Aurora Fire Rescue said in a tweet.
The open space is near the popular Cherry Creek State Park, but the fire was not on park property, said Kara Van Hoose, a Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman. Park operations are not affected.
The fire department sent engines, brush trucks and other vehicles to fight the fire, according to a 3:24 p.m. tweet.
