Rampart fire burns 20 acres in El Paso County

Local and federal officials are handling a fire along Rampart Range Road on Tuesday afternoon.

The Rampart fire, burning in the Waldo Canyon burn scar, has burned an estimated 20 acres, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

According to a 2:30 p.m. update posted on Twitter, a single-engine air tanker is helping to fight the fire with water drops. No structures are threatened and there are no evacuations.

Fire service officials stated in a 5:37 p.m. tweet that fire hoses have been placed all the way around the fire’s perimeter. Crews are using water to cool the edges of the fire to try to contain it.

Mt. Herman Road is closed and the public is asked to stay away from the area while firefighters work.

As of 2:52 p.m., the Teller County Sheriff’s Office had advised residents to avoid the area to better help first responders. Drivers are specifically asked to keep away from the intersection of Rampart Range and Loy Creek Road.

This is a developing story.
