Colorado State Patrol Troopers appealed for help from the public Wednesday after a 16-year-old girl crossing a road in a crosswalk north of Denver in Adams County was killed in a hit-and-run collision.
“A red Dodge Magnum hit and killed” the girl Tuesday, “then fled the scene” near the intersection of 76th Avenue and Leyden Street north of Denver, state patrol officials announced in a news release.
“The Dodge Magnum was traveling east on 76th Avenue when it struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk,” the release stated.
That vehicle should have damage to the front headlights, officials said.
The driver had not been identified Wednesday morning and the license plate was unknown.
The victim in the crash has been identified as Kara Kincaid, according to GoFundMe page.
“She was a bright light and so young,” said Avalon Gordon, the GFM organizer and Kara’s sibling. “She didn’t deserve this, she had only just started living her life. She was taken from her family, friends and boyfriend. So many people who loved and cherished her.”
Money raised will help pay for funeral and family expenses.
Tracy McNary, on the GFM page, described Kara as “a wonderful young lady that helped my son at daycare. So very sorry. My son is going to miss her presence.”
Kara was hit as she was walking home, Gordon wrote.
State patrol troopers asked for help, urging anybody who witnessed the crash or who has any information to contact dispatchers at 303-239-4501.
