Three injured Denver police officers, one with a neck laceration from a police badge, were treated and released from the hospital after a disturbance early Friday.
The injuries weren’t life-threatening, police said in a posting on Twitter. The disturbance in the 600 block of Pennsylvania Street drew a heavy police presence.
A uniformed officer, just after midnight, was outside an apartment building interviewing a complainant on a welfare check when a man exited the building and tore the badge off of the officer’s uniform and cut the officer’s neck with the badge, according to an arrest affidavit. The officer suffered a six-inch laceration.
The assailant then tried to disarm the officer, attempting to pull the officer’s service weapon out of the holster, the affidavit said. The officer called for backup and a second officer arrived. The suspect allegedly remained combative and the second officer’s hand was cut during a fight. The suspect allegedly tried to pull the second officer’s Taser out of a holster. A third officer arrived at the scene and suffered cuts and bruises during a struggle.
The suspect is being held for investigation of aggravated assault of a police officer. Three officers were treated for injuries at a hospital and released.
