Thousands of Xcel customers still without power across metro Denver Friday night after winter storm

More than 113,000 people throughout metro Denver and the Front Range lost power Thursday after a winter storm dumped heavy, wet snow across Colorado, causing hundreds of outages, Xcel Energy said.

As of 8:14 p.m. Friday, Xcel reported 267 outages were still impacting 3,326 customers, ranging from Boulder County to Littleton and Denver to Idaho Springs, and said no estimated restoration time was available.

Outages impacted more than 113,000 customers Thursday and Friday, Xcel officials said in a news release. Crews had restored power to more than 106,000 customers by Friday afternoon.

Nearly 300 crew members worked to restore power to impacted customers on Friday, according to the company.

Chatfield State Park south of Littleton closed due to a power outage with no estimated time of reopening, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Its off-leash dog park is also closed.

A hefty snowstorm hit Colorado overnight Wednesday, dropping more than 2 feet of snow in some of the Front Range foothills and up to 10 inches across metro Denver on Thursday morning. The storm has snarled traffic, disrupted flights and canceled and delayed schools.

The storm is expected to drop more than a foot of snow over most of Denver and more than 4 feet of snow in some of the foothills and mountains by Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
