On the real last day of training camp, the Broncos’ run of injury woes at wide receiver continued.
This time, arguably Denver’s top option went down.
Jerry Jeudy, the 2020 first-round pick out of Alabama, took an end-around during a team period against the Los Angeles Rams but pulled up along the sideline and grabbed at his right hamstring.
Jeudy was helped away from the fans in attendance by trainers and the got a cart ride to the Denver locker room. On the way, he held both of his hands around his right leg above his knee.
“It’s a hamstring,” head coach Sean Payton confirmed. “We’ll get an MRI and kind of see where he’s at with it.”
“He plays ‘Z’, he plays in the (slot) position for us,” Payton added. “We have a lot of guys and hopefully it’s nothing long-term.”
That imaging revealed an injury that is likely to take several weeks to heal, a source later confirmed to The Post. With the Broncos’ opener against Las Vegas is now 17 days away, Denver appears on track, then, to open the season without Jeudy available.
Jeudy, 24, was the No. 15 pick overall in the 2020 draft. He used a strong finishing kick to the 2022 season to make it his best as a professional so far, finishing with 67 catches for 972 yards and six touchdowns.
That prompted the Broncos to exercise his fifth-year option for 2024, guaranteeing him $12.987 million next year before he would be set to reach free agency.
His injury is the latest in a string at the position this summer for the Broncos.
Tim Patrick tore his Achilles early in camp and Jalen Virgil tore his meniscus Saturday night against San Francisco in a preseason game. Both are on injured reserve and out for the season. K.J. Hamler, the Broncos’ second pick in 2020, was waived with an injury designation after he developed a heart condition while rehabilitating from a torn pectoral muscle over the summer.
Hamler and the Broncos have talked about reuniting perhaps in the next month or so as he gets healthy.
